6 Last-Minute Family Getaways Before Summer Ends!

MarinMommiesblog.com JULY 29, 2024

The new school year is almost here, but that doesn't mean that summer is over! There's still time pack up the kids and take a last-minute summer family getaway. Here are 6 of our favorite destinations that aren't that far away and are perfect for an impromptu end-of-summer trip.

North Lake Tahoe

Tahoe is just a three-hour drive away, and there's so much for families to do there during the summer months! Some of our favorite places to visit there are Truckee, Tahoe City, and Palisades Tahoe.

Monterey and Pacific Grove

Drive three hours south of Marin you'll be on the Monterey Peninsula, home to the famous Monterey Bay AquariumPacific Grove, and more.

Safari West

While it may look like it's just up near Santa Rosa, being at Safari West feels like visiting an entirely different continent — Africa! Go "glamping" in one of their luxury tent cabins, and then take a tour of this nature preserve to see giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and more.

Cavallo Point, Sausalito

Historic Cavallo Point Lodge in Sausalito is the perfect place for a family weekend away, and you don't even have to cross a bridge! It's right next door to the Bay Area Discovery Museum, too.

Pismo Beach & the Central Coast

The Central Coast's Pismo Beach is a fun place for families to visit. We love the SeaCrest Oceanfront Hotel right on the Pacific. Don't miss spectacular Hearst Castle in nearby San Simeon or the cool college town of San Luis Obispo.

The Claremont, Berkeley

Berkeley's spectacular Claremont Resort & Spa is the perfect spot for an East Bay getaway. A local landmark since 1915, they offer a Kids' Club, spa, pool, tennis, dining, and much more. Plus it's close to UC Berkeley, Tilden Park, and other fun destinations.

Whether it's a day trip or a long weekend over Labor Day, make the most of the season by getting away and savoring the last taste of summer.
